At The River Ukiah we believe that daily devotions change the way we think, transforms our spirit and the condition of our mind. Then, when we face life situations just as Jesus did, we begin to respond in the same way.

Journaling is another excellent way to help you process what God is speaking to us. It’s also a useful tool to use at a later time to look back on some of the “nuggets” that you have received through your reading. It is through writing these things down that you can see the blessings and some very important lessons!

SOAP Devotion Journaling Method

SOAP is a way of reading your Bible and applying what you read in a practical way. SOAP stands for:

Scripture – Read a passage of scripture and write down a verse or two that jumps out to you.
Observation – What are your personal observations that you note from this scripture?
Application – How does it now apply to your every day life? What can you do to apply this in your life today?
Prayer – Write a personal prayer based on your observation and application.

Find a place to quiet and alone with God

All you need is a Bible (you can also use a bible app on your smart device) and a way to record your thoughts (Notebook/pen/Notes App).

Start out your time with God by thanking him for life and let him know you love Him and want to grow closer to him. Then open your Bible and ask Him to show you how to live the life He has purposed you to live.

Focus on being present with God, listen to His Word, and respond to His Spirit.
